Other Things Simplex / Re: Cold Weather starting
« on: January 07, 2015, 09:15:06 AM »
I heard John Treen describe the procedure at the Servi-Cycle Festival in Hammond, Louisiana, in 1993.  The military became very interested because it was the only brand to pass the "cold start test".  He went on to say that all of the other brands tested were four strokes!

Great post!!!!  Any idea of how to find what looks to be (maybe) the edge of a second page of text?

Pete,
Give me a call 228-806-7670.  I have just come home from Barber's Vintage Festival in Birmingham, AL.  I went into the museum this year and took about 250 pictures including a Simplex Automatic.  Over 1,000 bikes on display, a 550 vendor swap meet and vintage racing. I bought a Zundapp scooter while I was there.  Yea, I've had my fix!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Mike

All, I had a call from Lloyd Andrews a couple of days ago.  He dates Norman's daughter, Cindy.  They are ready to sell some of Norman's bikes and or parts.  For more information, call Lloyd at 727-565-6855.  Good luck in your hunt!!! Mike

Try using POR 15 tank treatment.  There is some work, but so is continuing to clean the carb.  Plus it might quite on you at the wrong spot.  Also, never, ever use ethanol gasoline!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good luck, Mike

Rick, Wow, so I learn something new this morning about the website.  It just never dawned on me not to use my name.  So, if, in fact, Brian is a subscriber to this website, maybe he will respond to this thread! Mike

Ric can answer about Brian having a membership here.  I don't recall ever seeing a post from him.  I haven't talked with Brian since I was visiting Gary Wollard in 2004, and he happened to call during my visit.  How about it Larry Brown?  Do you have any contact info for Brian Cullen?  Mike

Brian Cullen (spelling)???, who also lives in Australia, owns a Servi-Cycle.  Brian attended the Simplex show in Hammond, Louisiana, in 1993. Unfortunately, I do not have a contact number for him.  Very nice bike in the pictures!!  Mike

Folks,  I am sorry to report the death of Norman Burton, a Servi-Cycle expert from St. Petersburg, Florida.  Norm was one of a kind.  His knowledge of Simplexes and all things mechanical never ceased to amaze me.  He was always willing to share what he knew.  I have often regretted that I did not record some of the conversations that I heard between Norm and Gary Wollard.  You will see evidence of his knowledge in Gary's book.  They could really split hairs on any detail over why something was engineered a particular way.
I remember that Norm's birthday was October 1, and I believe that he was 87 on his last birthday.  He actually died on April 2, but I did not learn of his death until yesterday.  He was cremated, and his ashes were spread in Tampa Bay.  He leaves one daughter, one son, and one step son.  His daughter has asked that collectors not call her about parts at this point in time.  In the future she will catalog all of what he had and make some or all of it available.
Peace in all of the pieces, Mike

Gary and Adam did take this bike to a Saint's game. I have seen the picture of Adam riding Archie Manning on this bike.  I am sure that this sale is more a matter of how or where to store it in Bradenton than anything else.  I wonder if Chris (Gary's other son) kept one of the automatics.  I guess that this auction marks the final end of Gary's collection!!!  Kind of a sad thought for me, personally.

As a matter of fact, I talked with Bob yesterday.  He is at home now, and is improving every week.  He walks with a walker and receives physical therapy once a week.  He has cut his medication for pain management by 50%.  He appreciates the contacts that many of you have made from this list.  He DOES plan to go to Portland this summer!!! At age 81 (I believe), he is doing great!!!!!!!!! Mike

Larry, Is this the scooter that you bought from Gary while we were visiting with him several years ago?  What a terrible story-that bum needs a visit from Guido - the guy who can break his knee caps!!!!!!! I'll be calling you soon. Mike
