Title: Simplex Bicycle
Post by: kartjockey on March 17, 2020, 02:48:41 AM
We have all heard about it but now here is proof!  Wheels look like they came from an Automatic.

That's a good find , Tom .
I wonder if it had a short kick stand like an Automatic . ;)

Jim Lokai had one at Portland a few years ago.  As with all things Jim, he said it was for sale for the right price. I don’t recall it having the 2” wide rims on it though.

Hey guys, I bought the one Jim had. It was a girls model. would like to find a boys model. The kick stand is regular bicycle as are the wheels. Notice the inset picture. the pedal and crank assembly is on top of the frame instead of integrated into the frame like all other bicycles. Front fork is unique also. I'll post some pictures. Bob

These are cool. I talked to Treen's son right after I bought this. They went to the Schwinn factory and found out they couldn't compete in the market place with their bikes so production was cancelled. There were both boys and girls models prototyped and sent to select dealers to see if there was any interest. Not many were actually put into production. There was actually another model made with the regular servi-cycle front end and fenders. I've only seen 2, the one I own and a restored one, also a girls model, in Texas for sale.

Turns out my bike brochure is the same one Gary published in his book.  Page 31  Lots more info there too.
