Hey Mike I used to have that motor in this car (came out of a 69 Tbird) but I blew it up when I was 18 and didn't know how to rebuild it so I traded it for a running 2v 429.....then put in this 351 4V out of a 69 mustang. It rips for an old boat :)

I was looking through old posts when I found this, Rick I am very jealous of your build. Its BEAUTIFUL, it has class and style. When I tear my engine apart for the first time what should I be on the look out for? should I put that conn rod in while I'm in there? Any heads up (since I have no experience with these engines) would be great. (I am a mechanically inclined. I worked as a tech at a dealership for 10 years and now teach auto, but I just found these sweet bikes for the first time and have no experience with their idiosyncrasies.

Is that what that switch is for? I thought it was a kill switch (on right side under tank). Yes the taillight has a clear section on one end. Its not perfectly clear, more of a fade from red to clear (not a straight line transition). How do you know its a later motor from looking at it? how do I start it with that then? just wrap a rope around it?

is that what that hub is? I was wondering since it didn't match anybody elses. where did it come from? Yes that is a 1963 Tbird. My dad bought it in 1979 for $150 and I got it when I was 15 in 1998, owned it since. It has a 351 Cleveland 4V in it :)

Hello everyone, I just joined today. I'm from Northern California, I teach automotive at a local college and I happen to come upon this bike through a random conversation. I picked up a 1947 simplex with what I guess is a later engine M code. I bought it for $600. clean title and all. I'm glad I found this website, since I never even heard of a Simplex before, just thought it looked cool. I will post pics in the next few days.

What Year is my Bike? / Just got my First Simplex!
« on: March 28, 2014, 01:25:27 PM »
Hello everyone. I just got my first simplex (won't be my last) and I am trying to find out more about it. Based on what I found on this website it looks like it is a pre '48 frame (kickstand is on left rear), has a goose neck style handle bar (as opposed to the plate) and I don't have a number, yet alone a place for the number under the neck. (not boxed). however I have an engine number of "M13376B" , I have a gas tank that seems to match the frame (single fill on right). I have no cover on the right of the engine and I don't know if it was a kick start or push start or what? It does have an extension coming out of the frame under the right side of the engine, but no mechanism on it just a snap ring. I will post pictures of any area if requested. I got it for $600 including clean title. any help would be greatly appreciated. (title says '47 but could be wrong due to human error or year sold?)
