Handle Bar plate plaque
« on: August 18, 2012, 12:41:10 PM »
Reese sent me a bunch of photos, and while going through them, came across this.  Has anyone seen one before?  Looks like it was factory or dealer installed.

Red, I made that plaque years ago, I just wanted to see if anybody would think it was really a factory addition.  Guess I fooled you.

Just kidding!  That is neat.  I wonder how many they made, and if that was a special edition bike.

I seem to recall reading about that plate in one of the articles that was published, but can't remember which one.  It's got to be a rare item now.

I've only seen one and Rick has a copy of the picture. My question is this a normal place for a break switch?  ???

Could be a one of a kind or the second one. The first was on a bike sold on ebay about two years ago. Where does this one hail from?

Its kind of odd that I had to get one from florida. You would think there would be alot of bikes down here in N.O. with them being from here but there is not. I guess with all the flooding and saltwater they just rusted away

Reese, that is the normal switch location for '57 and new bikes.  We've been discussing when Simplex actually made the change.  Bob Kerr thinks it was at the model year change.  I'm not so sure.  There may have been some '56's with the new location.  I think my bike teeters somewhere between.

It would be interesting to know which states had the highest annual sales.  Here in southern Illinois where it's primarily poor farm country, there were not too many motorbikes of any brand.  One of Treens grandson's used to be a member here.....I wonder if we could bug him about any surviving data?

I merged these 2 topics together to show the other plaque that Reese sent me.
