are the front spring shafts ( uprights) wider than they would be on a Standard Servi ? Perhaps thats not what I am seeing in the photo .

Doesn't look like a sportsman to me. Looks like a cobbled together simplex automatic. We would need better pictures, but the front fender looks like a regular fender to me. Those tires do not fit a sportsman rim. The kickstand is an abortion of some sort. I also don't see a crank and rod in that motor, which tells me no flywheel either. Looks like a $1000 project bike to me.
Just noticed the title say 1956 simplex sportsman senior. The sportsman senior didn't come along to 1960 or so, and looks like a minibike.

Maybe it is this one and he graphed that morphodite kickstand on it right after downing that beer! Seat does kind of look like it has a rubber cover. Def priced too high

Tom, you may be right. Bill Erickson restored a 1958 Sportsman like that. The fenders are the same, as are the brakes of a regular Servi. If there were more pictures, we could tell for sure. If the internal kickstart is missing, that would present a challenge to find one or fabricate one.
