hello
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:24:06 PM »
I bought a 1954 Simplex half way through its restoration. I am retired and I ride motorcycles buy know nothing about the Simplex.
I bought the bike to complete the restoration and sell.
I have many questions and need some serious help. I do not have the title yet but I’m told it says it’s a 1954, but I found some hand notes that say 1959. They list the ID # as M15570B.
Questions:
Where is the ID # located on the bike ?
Can I find a new exhaust or is there any hope if restoring the one I have ?
I need hand grips.  I have one but no throttle grip.
The motor turns over and feels like it has good compression.
Where can I send the motor, Carb and fuel filter for complete restoration ?
I have many more questions that I would like to ask you later.
I listed the bike on ebay so you guys (and gals) on Simplex Servi-Cycle club can see the current photos.
Please have a look at ebay item 281244842511 and any advice or words of wisdom would be greately appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome aboard!

That number is the motor number, which appears to be a 1954.  Look under the neck, that is where the frame number will be located.

It is very hard to make a profit on these bikes by restoring them, as the parts usually wind up costing as much as the bike is worth in the end.  Very few Simplex's ever sell for than their owner has into them.

Not exactly the colors I would have picked but maybe in sunny california it'll look cool.  The handlebars almost look Sportsman, but they don't seem to be tipped at the right angle.  The dash plate is pre-'55, but has some extra holes.  I think it's odd that the floor boards are not smooth......could this be a Johny Cash bike?

Agree that unless he bought it cheap, it'll be tough to make a profit on it.
