Buy, Sell, Trade / automatic transmission
« on: November 10, 2014, 07:15:15 PM »
I have an automatic transmission....was rebuilt by Wayne, new bearings, springs and mounting bracket. Wayne gets $400 for all I have, I would sell for $350. Also have both belts, all barely used.

We have made the winged decal on a larger scale, but it could be made smaller to fit a tank. It would have to be printed on the thicker vinyl b/c of all the different colors and smaller details.

Here is a pic of the decals I put on my tank 2 yrs ago. They are just something I designed and cut right b4 I went to Portland to get something on the tank. The original decals would look just like the original. These are 2 layers of vinyl, 1 white and 1 black, the originals would also be 2 layers b/c they are 2 colors also. Would recommend cutting the vinyl for the automatic decals using the thinner vinyl.

Vinyl is gonna be thicker than water slide. You could clear over it, but you would want to test to make sure the solvent in the clear isn't gonna break down and lift the vinyl. The vinyl I use for cutting decals is a 7 yr sign making vinyl. The vinyl I use for printed material is car wrapping vinyl that would also be laminated and is a little thicker than the sign vinyl. Never clear coated, but I would want to test each vinyl before I took the chance of ruining a good paint job. My wife did try to clear coat over the sign vinyl for a plaque she was making for a cust, and it lifted and ruined the vinyl...but I think she tried using a laquer based clear from rattle can. What decals are you looking for? We have started designing the automatic decals, but haven't finished them up yet. If I were to make some, I could sent you some of the same vinyl used to test with.

I would always recommend the vinyl...of course, that is what I am able to make. Vinyl Like I made for Rick is for a Sportsman and is printed and covers the whole side panel of the tank. Vinyl for an automatic would be cut. looks nice, but there are some draw backs. It leaves small edges that are easy to catch when wiping or cleaning with a rag, but I always figured I could just remove and replace if I have problems. I have spilled gas on mine, and not had any probs yet. If you go the water slide route, I think I would clear coat over them b/c they would lift if gas was spilled on them.

I think you will find that's the case w/ most of the original fenders. Both of my fenders have been bobbed.

I looked at the fiberglass fenders while at Portland this summer and they looked to me like they would work in a pinch. They have a flare on the end, but it looks to me like it could be cut off pretty easily to look just like an original. How does he have them priced? I don't know if I would want to go to all the trouble if I had to pay premium price.

did you get the mounting plate, if so, everything bolts to it. The jack shaft comes with 2 bearings, and the clutch comes with the belt and everything needed to mount. You will need the bolts to mount the bearings and motor to the frame.

I bought the 212 harbor freight predator motor for $99. Traded my original motor to Wayne for the mounting plate, the jack shaft, the comet clutch and and kicker. I think about $800 worth of parts if you were to buy them out right from Wayne, but you don't need the kicker, you can use the pull start, and get the kicker later if you wanted, Worked on it two nights after work mounting everything and had it started and running. Still need to make a few adjustments to the jack shaft b/c it wants to slip a little when I get on it from a dead stop, but it runs at least twice as fast as the original motor. I haven't tested it for top speed, b/c I only have 26" bicycle tires on it. Starts with one kick every time...(that's only if you remember to switch the kill switch to the run position.) I have very little mechanical ability and was able to do all of it in just 2 evenings. Some on here like the upright motors better b/c they look more original. I also like the looks, but it takes more fabrication to get them mounted. Look at some of the posts in this section to see which one you prefer, and decide  how much work you want to do. I love the look of the original motor, but changing to the clone motor was the best decision I have made for what I am wanting to do with my simplex. Carryall is a good one to talk to about these motors and is very willing to help out,
