Wheels & Tires / Rear brake used on front.
« on: May 14, 2021, 09:04:57 PM »
I've tried to read through all post concerning. I have a later model wide rear brake drum wheel im using on rear. I also have a skinny rear brake drum wheel that I did not narrow I'm using on front. By looking at pictures I think I saw some bikes with drum on front mounted on right side and another picture drum is on left. To successfully mount nonnarrowed drum wheel i removed stepped rocks arm bolt and used brass bushings using 3/8 bolts and installed from inside of forks  . I'm tinkering with anchoringg options now. One is extended bolt on main leg bolt i made.  Other option is a stiff leg mounted to main leg of Springer. I also picked up a workman steel rim with aluminum brake with cable and grip today.  I can always use that. I know this is long but did my best to explain. Bottom line you do not have to narrow hub to use. I have pictures of what I've done but don't know how to post. Old guy!

Introductions / Old guy back
« on: May 10, 2021, 07:27:15 PM »
After being gone for a couple years in back. I've always checked in from time to time but working on pipeline jobs across country kept me from building Simplex. I retired in December and received most of needed parts from Wayne today. I'll try to read and catch up with who is building what  I'll surely have questions.

Life and work has kept me from posting  And reading for several months. I found a rear wheel that is the wider version at a"first monday" here in Texas Friday. It was complete with all spokes and  brakes and axle in place. i bought it cheap. The guy thought it was a bicycle wheel. Everything was frozen up but I disassembled, cleaned and greased everything. It's  brake shoe return springs were rusted into. RickS told me that Wayne would have them. I'm catching up on everyone's builds and reading all posts tonight.

Guys, I am working in the area. I finally had the chance to stop in Ben Wheeler. The gentleman did pass away and the store is closed. The lady I spoke with that owned another store in the area, says the wife is going to open up an Antique store and she believes the bikes will be in the new store. The Icecream store is still vacant. I was by there yesterday.

Im sad to say that the ice cream shop does not exist anymore. The owner died and they shut the store down . The wife is going to open a antique store and maybe the bikes will show up. Im in the area weekly and will look for progress

Ricks, I assumed that you had the kit and disassembled it to get the drive and driven clutch. I thought you had taken them off of the aluminum or steel plate that makes them look like a mini-bike. Could you tell me which to order? Can I get these from Wayne? BMI ?

9
Ricks, I found your build link. I forgot you stretched yours. Oil lamp did basically the same. Thanks

Guys thanks for the information. Carryall, I am using a GS series motor like Rick is using. I haven't decided if I will run as intended or mount up high like Rick has done. Most likely that's what I will do. If I run in the intended position I plan on making a cover from aluminum or stainless to be more eye appealing than the plastic cover provided. RickS is there a link to your build? I'm going to bite the bullet and order from Wayne today to be sure I get what I need. I wanted to save a few dollars if possible to buy more parts. Thanks for the help guys.TP

After looking on BMI website the TAV2, which is what I remember you use is priced at $195.00. I guess Wayne is not out of line. He has to make something for handling and getting you the right clutch. Thanks for the help. I was looking at the Chinese clutches I suppose. They were pried around $80.00

Ok, thanks for answering Rick. is there a certain series?

I have contacted Wayne on buying some parts. He has his torque convertors listed at $215.00. From information I have gathered from this board you can buy same convertor off the net for under $100.00. Am I missing something? Are Wayne's built just for him? If I do order off of net or a local shop what exactly do I need? I don't mind paying for Wayne's if that's what I truly need but don't want to spend an extra $100.00 if not needed. I can use that money for other parts. Could someone explain what I'm missing?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / Re: Simplex Stretch
« on: June 26, 2016, 04:45:11 PM »
I read through the complete thread as I am going to use a GC 160. Nice work. I guess I missed where you said what the flywheel cover is made of. Did Wayne supply it? Aluminum pot? Ever what it is, it looks great. I'm a welder by trade and I am admiring your work. Good job. Did you happen to make a template of the motor plate? I read where Wayne was going to build a motor plate for the GC motors. I talked to him Friday and he has not. Wondering why if I'm a welder I was asking for template? Work out of town 6 and 7 days a week and it would certainly be a time saver. I am going to mirror your setup on my build. Copying someone's work is a compliment in my way of thinking. Good job Carryall. If ok I would like to pm you and ask some more questions. Thanks.
