Engine & Transmission / Kick starter question

I have seen photos of Simplex Servicycles in the 1940's with rope pulley starters, as opposed to a kicker arm.  I have part of a 1943  model.  Should it have a rope pulley starter.  If rope pulley starters where used, will they also fit a later motor.  Thanks.

Hi, been lurking here for a while and a lot of info found.  I have what I believe to be a 1943 servi cycle with no motor or trans.  Looking for original motor.  I'll be asking questions in future.
