Then any idea why the ID # ends in 55 rather than 54 ?
Thanks

Other Things Simplex / Confused
« on: January 23, 2014, 07:53:52 AM »
I'm confused. I'm being told my Simplex id # 07655 is a 1954 and even the registration says its a 1954. 07655 should mean it's a 1955 so I thought it could be a 1955 sold in 1954.  I just read "Simplex Servi-Cycle" by Gary L Wollard and on page 33 he sayid that no Simplex bikes were sold during the calendar year 1954.
So do you see why I'm so confused ?

Introductions / New bike

SIMPLEX
Just purchased at an estate sale.
This is a 1954 Simplex according to the title but I did find a form hand filled out that said 1959.
The frame, fork, tank, fenders etc have just been stripped, primed and power coated at a cost of over $2,000.   ***With one small exception, the bike looks brand new.
The clutch shoes are new, the brake shoes are new and the fork has new fittings and bushings.
The tires are new OEM Servi Cycle.
The engine appears good and it turns over with good compression.
Box of parts.  Carb, fuel pump, mirror, new tail light lens and back plate. (Needs taillight fitting)
There is one hand grip but no throttle hand grip.
I’m not sure what else.

My intention is to finish the restoration and re-list the bike on ebay and sell the bike for it’s actual value.  The purpose of this ad is for the members of Simplex Servi-Cycle club to view all the pictures and advice. The reserve price is outrageously high ($10,000) because I really don’t want to sell it until it’s finished.

Any other advice or comments from someone with knowledge about Simplex (no negative comments, please) would be appreciated.

The bike is in Walnut, CA  (Los Angeles County)
My name is Stuart and my phone # is 909 239-6199

Now the *** (And I know I screwed up) When I got the bike it was on blocks.  I put it on the ground and rolled it to my truck about 100 yds. (On the street and sidewalk)  The tires are new and never had air in them.  The front tire moved to one side and left the rim to roll on the sidewalk causing some small chips on the bottom edge on the rim.  The bike was in  100% museum quality before that.  Made me sick.  The tire on the back remained flat and the rim is perfect.

I will ad additional remarks, comments, questions and answers to this listing as I get them.

Introductions / hello
« on: January 13, 2014, 12:24:06 PM »
I bought a 1954 Simplex half way through its restoration. I am retired and I ride motorcycles buy know nothing about the Simplex.
I bought the bike to complete the restoration and sell.
I have many questions and need some serious help. I do not have the title yet but I’m told it says it’s a 1954, but I found some hand notes that say 1959. They list the ID # as M15570B.
Questions:
Where is the ID # located on the bike ?
Can I find a new exhaust or is there any hope if restoring the one I have ?
I need hand grips.  I have one but no throttle grip.
The motor turns over and feels like it has good compression.
Where can I send the motor, Carb and fuel filter for complete restoration ?
I have many more questions that I would like to ask you later.
I listed the bike on ebay so you guys (and gals) on Simplex Servi-Cycle club can see the current photos.
Please have a look at ebay item 281244842511 and any advice or words of wisdom would be greately appreciated.
Thanks
