New guy from San Diego CA.
« on: August 16, 2020, 12:45:16 PM »
Hey everybody, This won’t be popular with the purists! My father bought my 55 simplex in Bakersfield in 1972ish and had it as yard art until 2010 when I drug it to my house. It sat in my garage for near 10 years when COVID hit and I had more time at home than I was accustom to. I started the fabrication in March and minus a few details I finished it in late July (some evenings and weekends).

This build was my spin on a rat rod board tracker. Built with almost 100% of stuff I had around (including the 20hp Kohler motor) and what I didn’t have I built from scratch. I became a part of the site to keep up with the simplex world and start working on some final details I need to work out. I have several build pics, might be worth explaining the build if there is an interest.

Welcome Todd!

Resize your pictures to 800 x 600 pixels and that usually works well on the forum.

Wow, very interesting! Is that a Weber or Dellorto carb?

Be careful, Simplex brakes weren’t enough for the 4 hp of their motor, yours can get you in trouble quickly.

Brakes are an issue, first run out the brake arm on the drum plate flipped forward as the original brakes are very worn. Luckily I was able to stop by dragging my feet on the ground. It can idle down the street at near 20 mph. There is nothing safe about this.

Are those motorcycle tires or bicycle tires on your Franken-cycle? If motorcycle, where did you get them? Thanks

Thanks I like the bike and its crazy to ride. I could not find anything for a motorcycle tire except for the traditional Coker tire. It was back ordered so I went with a bicycle tire for now, I like the color so I am not sure what I will do. I named the bike Murder Hornet as I heard about the Murder Hornet coming into Washington on the radio while working on the bike, seemed to fit.
