Bob Kerr obituary
« on: October 12, 2024, 06:50:00 AM »
Bob Kerr passed from this world to Simplex Heaven on Thur Oct. 10, 2024. We're going to miss his jokes, words of wisdom, valuable advice on the Simplex Scooters, and all his BS he was famous for.  But, we know him and Ernie are riding the streets of gold in Simplex Heaven. RIP old friend. Bob

I met Bob in 2011 at the VMBC meet in Portland, IN.  He, along with Jim Lokai, Ernie Butler, and Bob Legron took me in as the "kid."  Bob and the rest couldn't have been more gracious sharing knowledge with another fledgling Simplex guy.  His easy going manner, knowledge and friendliness will surely be missed. Godspeed Bob!

Wow Rick! You were trained by some of the great oldtimers. I guess we're part that group now.

Bob Kerr certainly had some stories.  Taught me like an apprentice while I visited him in Oklahoma at his home. Very very thorough.  Simplex 101.  I came away a better machinist.

He called Babcock and Wilcox  ....B&W.  I think he gained a lot of machine knowledge there and then went out on his own with another employee to run their own shop.  How he got so blasted smart about equipping mills with CNC capability is beyond me.  In the attic of his shop he still had dozens of servo motors and other components.

Rick, you are right.  It's like Travis used to tell me.  They are the Double OG's  (old old guys).  And now you are the OG!

I have to ask , what caused his death at a fairly 'young' age ?

Maybe the song is right " Only the good die young " .

Pete . :)
