1948 RESTORATION

Rims came back today. used aftermarket rims and custom spoke size.(what a pain in the butt). cant wait to bolt them up

Looking Good!  Did you try Simplex Spokes?  What gauge are the ones you used?  What length?
What are the rims made from and where did you buy them.

During the Portland meet, we watched Bob Kerr set down in a lawn chair with a Simplex rim, and a rear hub that was very similar, but not identical to a simplex hub, and some spokes he got from Wayne...and within 15 or so minutes had the whole thng laced up and very close to true.  He then walked down a few spaces to a guy who had a balancing stand & had the guy to true it up.  In less than 2 hours, that wheel was on a bike and running around the fairgrounds.  Pretty neat.

I did try the simplex spokes 5mm too short.  I bought these rims from a place called fat bikes. found them on the web.  not sure of the maker?   the spokes a beefy. 3.2 mm.  I have my old hoops if anyone is interested. they have no rust.  but they do have some flat spots.  not too bad. or I will put them on ebay. thaks

There is a guy in Ohio who makes any length spokes.  He's always at Portland, and reasonable.
