Here are some pics of Jeff Mischke's 1959 Sportsman. Note the wide fenders (and tires). The kick starter inboard of the magneto.

Looks like he needs an exhaust! I was told those sportsmans with the foot pegs behind the engine are uncomfortable to ride.
What size are the tires and rims? I think they used a motorcycle sizing and not a bicycle sizing like the earlier Simplex's.
Thanks for posting those pictures. Do you happen to have any closeups of the kickstart mechanism?

I posted the 1960 manual, which has the Sportsman specific parts break downs. Hopefully, they will clarify any questions you have.
