Magneto laminated "spider"

Can I paint the magneto laminated "spider" that holds the coils?  I have one that was rusty, so I glass beaded it clean. Will this cause an issue with grounding or anything like that?

Rick I don't have a definitive answer, but should you need them there are water soluble conductive paints available in many colors and are inexpensive. Being water soluble they should be clear coated with high temp or standard clear coat spray which will not dissolve the conductive paint.

Conductive paint is brushed on and quite fragile so clear coat has to be sprayed on so as not to disturb the color base while applying the protective coat.

Chances are you won't need this now but it's useful info to have in your mental tool kit. Rick C.

I doubt that a coat of paint will influence the field created when the magnets pass the core . The coils have to be insulated from the core in any case .

It would seem that the cores have some type of protective coating from the manufacturer as they don't normally rust . I have old boat motor cores that are pristine , even though they have not been treated with much care .

I would not paint the contact points where the core meets the case mount to insure that proper grounding takes place .

Thanks Rick and Pete.  I think I will just spray a thin coat on and tape off the contact points.

Paint won't hurt it as long as your grounds make it through.
