Coil Resistance
« on: January 03, 2018, 10:39:36 AM »
Because our electrical / lighting seems to be marginal , at best , and in order to have this info in our data base for testing purposes :

What resistances has everyone found regarding ignition ( HT coil ) and  lighting coils ?

I think it would be nice to have that info for original Simplex as well as what ever aftermarket systems have been used . If for no other reason than comparison .

Pete . :)

Please allow me to be the first . ;)

The following are resistances measured from my '57 Phelon magneto .

OEM Simplex Phelon ignition coil : 14.11?
Note : this measurement was taken from my OEM coil that has the outer casing removed via a cleaner I tried using . The cleaner turned the casing to mush , literally . I was able to remove the leftover casing and found the winding ends that were suppose to feed the spark plugs . So , there might be a slightly different reading , due to my coil not having the connections meant to accept the HT wires .

New replacement Cushman ignition coil : 17.7? out of the box / 17.66? installed .

Upper lighting coil : .5?

Lower lighting coil : .7?

Headlight coil : .9?

Note : All three lighting coils were measured when in unmolested original factory wrappings .

I have rewound the headlight coil and since , have a much brighter light .
I intend on rewinding the upper and lower coils .
I'll post resistances for all three rewound coils after I get them done .
