Engine Head's Broken Air-Fins Repair
« on: August 06, 2023, 03:10:06 PM »
This is my broken air fin's repair that I've done with a Mig welder and a grinder.
Thanks to my friend Tom Klumpp for the encouragement and his inspiration.

Good work.  I think you really need to measure the cylinder with a bore gauge to make sure it didn’t warp from the heat.  If it did, a good hone job should bring it back to round.  Not a ball hone, but a straight stone hone, like a Sunnen or Lisle.

Good morning
That looks great and a good way to do it.  I have not seen it done by building up such big pieces of missing fins. I have always made replacement fin pieces or had the original broken part to fit back which is difficult to get in there to weld sometimes.

Wish I had seen that years ago.
Great job and worth the time.
