Indian extended wheel base?
« on: February 17, 2012, 05:49:10 PM »
The Indian look-alike seems to have extended the wheel base with an adapter plate.

I thought it looked awfully long.

That might be my answer to my space problem with a starter.

What do you think?

You might be right.  It looks like the axle is mounted rearward 3 or 4 inches from its normal position.  I'd bet you could cut the axle mount plates out of your chassis, make some new, elongated ones, and weld it back together and it would look factory!

I had noticed that also.  I wonder if it was more for extending the wheelbase, or making room for that rear hub (doesn't look like a Simplex unit).

I agree, those are not simplex hubs.  If I were to build a custom, and not use a belt final drive, I would look for some motorcycle wheels from an early Honda or such so you could get good tires and brakes cheap.
