Headlight on eBay
« on: April 10, 2014, 03:32:12 PM »
Take a look at this headlight:   http://www.ebay.com/itm/simplex-servi-cycle-/281306978892

Does anyone think this is original?  I know they used Miller headlights early on, and then switched to KD 869 later.  I never heard of this one, and the mount doesn't look correct.

Not that I'm any authority , but I don't recall seeing one like that in any of the literature I've seen on Simplex .

This what the Seller wrote in that auction :

"Original headlight servi cycle made by s&m lamp co Los Angeles very hard to find the original light original lens ballast etc.... 6" across this is the one your looking not a repro this is the original late 1940's in great shape will clean up !!! Good luck !!!"

I've never read anything about a ballast being used by Simplex , either .

Pete . :)

Doesn't a headlamp use a cut glass lens ? To me ,that looks more like a driving /fog lamp.

Simplex did use some S&M headlights, but they were the same as used by Mustang.  Hinge bolt type mount and fluted lens, very similar to the Scoot lite.  The Mustang guys usually pay a premium for them.  This light is not the correct model.
