Headlight needed for G Model
« on: November 01, 2015, 01:50:55 PM »
List,
I am still searching for a correct headlight for a military G model.  This is a bike that several collectors (including Gary Wollard and Norm Burton) had a hand in restoring.  As soon as I acquire the headlight, the bike will be placed in the World War 2 museum in New Orleans. I would certainly appreciate a donation, but, at this point, I would be willing to purchase, just to complete the process.  Gary and Norm would never forgive me for placing a bike in the museum that was not complete.  If you don't have a headlight, any leads would also be appreciated!!  Mike

What headlight does a military model G use? Do you have a picture of one?

Rick, All I can tell you is the only that I have ever seen had a toggle switch (light switch) in the headlight shell.  Adam Wollard gave the light to Norm for repair and wiring, but somehow the light was lost.  I don't have a G Model manual, so I don't have a reference.  Maybe someone on the list can supply the details. Thanks for your question.  Mike

The early Servi Cycles used an English Miller lighting set.  The Model G Manual shows the Miller headlight and generator, but the Special Instructions state the Tail light is a super safety design that permits bulb replacement without tools, and carries a spare bulb.  This may not be a Miller item.  There is a very nice Miller Headlight and generator on ebay right now.  It's in Australia, and the starting bid is over one hundred dollars.  Appears NOS.

Mike, how about posting a couple of pictures of the bike?

Does anyone know when the clutch hanger uprights changed from tube to flat stock?

My brochures suggest 1941.  So early G Models.

The Wheels & Tracks article shows a 6" headlight , likely a KD869.  I would have thought they would use a blackout light.

Thanks for all of the info.  I will post a couple of pictures in a day or so.  Did you all see the nice write up on Bob Legron in the VMBC magazine??

Rick, Bob is fine - as far as I know.  His daughter wrote an very nice tribute to him.  See the new issue Fall 2015 of Vintage Motor Bike Club.   I hope to call him tomorrow.  Mike

Great news!  I know Bob is getting up there in age.

Great article.  Bob just moved to a condo.  Still recovering.  Still has the same cell phone.  I hope the new Editor/layout work out.  I get the impression the new Editor is a Honda guy with little knowledge of motorscooters or motorbikes.  I haven't heard the 175cc or less displacement criteria  before.
