1953 Simplex For Sale
« on: August 14, 2012, 05:02:33 PM »
Completed just a few months ago.  $4500 Very Nice, Maroon Paint, Stainless Spokes, Rims powder coated white.  Wayne Mahaffe rebuilt the engine.
Runs great.  Ignition and lights work.  All correct.  Heathers Leather did the seat.  Need a new project.  Located just north of New Orleans, LA.  Simplex tires, all new bearings in axles.  Automatic.  Has 52 emblem on it, liked it better than 53 emblem.  Will give 53 emblem to put on.

Post some pictures and details of the restore and we can probably make a more accurate estimate.  Did you use paint or powder coat?  What was done to the engine?  New or used piston, oversize bore, new bearings, ect?

We've seen older restored bikes sell (on ebay) from 2300 to 3200.  I've seen some priced in the 5 grand range, but don't know if they sold or not.  Unless you were really lucky & started with a really nice bike, you've got to have 3 grand or more invested.  My bike was 100% complete and in good condition, but I've still got over 3k in it & I've still got a few things to do to it.

If I was computer literate I would post a picture.  It is maroon paint with white pin stripe on the fendors, rims and sheeve are powder coated white, Heathers Leather did the seat, Wayne Mahaffey did the engine, runs great, simplex tires, the only thing per Wayne Mahaffey that is not correct on the bike is the air cleaner, it is original, but is in verticle position and should be horizontal, Ignition  Key works and lights work.  I do not have a title and still have to work on that. I have $4000 in it, paid too much for it, and put too much in it.   I took the bike to Wayne several months ago as I needed some help, what a great guy.

If you have any kids or buddy's that are computer literate, you can have them scan a photo & email it to Rick or myself & we can post it up for you.

Where are you & the the bike located?

John, going by the info you gave us, I would guess around $5000-5500.  That is about the top of the simplex market, at least for 2 wheel cycles.  A 3 wheel truck, on the other hand, might fetch up to $12,000-13,000!  Like Mike said, if you can send me some pictures, I will get them posted for you.

I live in Head of Island, LA, about 40 miles from New Orleans.  Send me an email address and I will have some pictures sent.
Appreciate the advise and support
Thanks

Here are the pictures John sent me. Bike looks great!

One question, why did you use the 1952 only tank decal on a 1953 bike?

I used at 52 decal, as I did not like the way the 53 looked.  I will give the 53 decal to new owner .

Thanks for posting the pictures
