You got it Mike, It's a 1922 NEAR-A-CAR. I think its the most unusual bike I've ever seen, and I've only ever seen one other one, and it was a picture in a magazine.

It's the U shaped piece of metal that the transmission axle is mounted to.

I'm with you , Randal . I can't see Simplex adding the expense of plating when paint is so much less costly and they already had the paint facilities in the plant .

Paint eh.....that's interesting, as I've not seen any evidence of any other simplex parts being painted silver from the factory.  Seems like it would have been easier/cheaper to have some of those hoops bright zinc plated rather than setting up some silver paint in the paint booth for just one part (I guess they might have outsourced it?).  Has anyone seen any other parts painted silver?

Hello my name is Hank (57 Ford) . Have been around about a month. I have a  a 1956  automatic I live in Glen Allen, Va. five miles north of Richmond. Enjoy this forum  !! first for me .Got my first simplex I think ,in 1952 paid $25 dollars for it. I don't think I got a bill of sale or title for it  I grew up in Staunton, Va. Lot of hills was easy to start as long as you were not at the bottom.                       Got my 56 about 2008 Restored it .Got a lot help from Wayne still ride it !! I'm 75 now don' have a lot of  computer skills will post some pictures  Thanks Hank Waalewyn   that is pronounce Wall -win

Welcome Hank.  Staunton, isn't that where the Natural Bridge is?
