Seat #4 from Gary Wollard's auction looks very much like Chuck Leipham's work.  He came to Portland for many years and always parked next to the metal building directly to the east of the main part of the grounds.  He has a site at www.saddlerestoration.com.  He is expensive, but he does museum grade work.  Goggle him.

I had a 54 Automatic that had the embossed logo on the original seat.  Could that have been an extra feature on the deluxe models?

I haven't got the seat back yet so I can't tell you but I had the pan powder coated (black) before I sent it to them.

Derek, are you sure that is your seat?  LOL  Heathers Leathers shipped my seat today, and it should look exactly like that, I believe.  What color is that?  I ordered Sunburst British Tan.

I wasn't that specific, he told me that he did a nice russet sunburst for his Indian and I told him to go with it. Did you powder coat your pan?

Yes, I sent him a powder coated pan.  This is not my first rodeo with Wayne, he does good work, you will be happy.

How long did yours take? I sent him my pan 7 weeks ago. Last time I had one done, it was only a 2 week turn around.

This is the seat on my 1940 that is for sale. A little cleaning and some leather stuff should make it look real good. The emblem is visible and will probably stand out more after a little TLC.

My seat pan looked like new, so I had Wayne just re-paint mine again black again.  Figured it was rust free, and it's stored inside the house.  Figured it would save on both the cost, and "turn around time" it takes for him to send it out for stripping and powder-coating.
I have the VIN sticker I was issued from the DMV under my seat similar to you Rick.  I have another on the underside of the tank support channel also that can't be seen easily also, just in case. (as if there's another one to be mistaken for mine. LOL.  BTW, I rode mine for first time since last fall a little bit in my underground parking area when I moved it out of the house.  Ran great!  Seat is little bit more comfy to I think too.
