Belt tensioner needed?
« on: April 22, 2013, 08:29:26 AM »
It looks like the previous owner mocked my bike up without a tensioner. The belt would be tightened without he rear wheel.

Am I going to want to use a larger belt and add a tensioner?

I am running a Comet CVT to a whizzer sheave.

A photo would help, but you've got to have a way to take up the slack created if you're running from a variable pulley to a fixed one.  If the belt isn't big enough to make the transition from one extreme to the other, you're not getting all the available drive ratio possible.

If this belt is just between 2 fixed pulleys, you do not need a tensioner.  Adjust by moving the wheel back or forward.

Yes it is between two fixed pulleys.

This is all I have currenlty. Keep in mind I am in the super early mock up stages.

I see no need for a tensioner, except with one you may never have to adjust the belt!

illmattic, how about a few more pictures of your drive system. I have a honda GC160  to mount in my frame but have not decided what to use for my drive train yet. Bill Marcum 8)
