Simplex lock nuts
« on: July 07, 2013, 05:00:25 PM »
I put my luggage rack on this weekend and had an opportunity to snap a couple of better pics of the unique lock nuts Simplex used on my bike(spoke of these in an old post). They have a little spring wire that grabs the threads and prevents the nut from backing off. I have never seen these any where else but on a Simplex. How about you guys?

I've never seen those used on anything else either.  I wonder why?

Me neither . And , I've seen a lot of nut configurations in my time .

Maybe they are one of the inventions by J. Paul Treen ?

I have contacted Loc-Mor about buying lock nuts . They said they would give me a quote if I give them sizes and quantities . I made a point that I wouldn't need large quantities and that didn't seem to matter .

Can anyone tell me what sizes and pitch , specifically , are used on our bikes ?

They have the Dome Flex Lock Nut available . This is also similar to some of the nuts used on our bikes .

I believe that the thread for Simplex axles is British Whitworth.  I was looking for new axle nuts years ago, but I could not get them to match.  My son manages a Fastenal store, and he could not find a match.  I called Gary Wollard, and he just fell out laughing.  That's when he said the axles and nuts were imported from England.  If you find out anything different, I want to know!!!!! Those are the Anco style. I think I would buy some just to hold them in my hand!

Thanks for that , Tom .

Those sizes sound right . It's been a few months and I wasn't sure .

I'll post what I find out .
