Just bought a simplex project. Looks like theres a chance johnny cash may have owned it . Not sure what year so ill post some pics and let you pros make the decision. I live in salem oregon and I see theres a few members not to far away. Engine spins with compression. So send your professional info.

I would guess 1946.  The rack is very interesting, as I don't recall ever seeing one made out of flat stock.

That was my original guess. The rack is interesting and looks similar to the one my brother had on his bicycle to hold his newspaper delivery bags. I got, an extra set of wheels. The rear one looks like a clincher style. Also got an extra gas tank that has a little different looking cap than the one on the bike

Is there a digit in the motor number in the middle between the 7 and 8?  I can't tell.

Mike, it just looks like a crack to me.  I don't think it could be a number there either, as that would mean they made 100,000 H models, which we know they didn't.

The canister muffler and rear wheel are later models. Those wheels started midway through 1949, on the model L, and that muffler came out at the start of the 1949 model year, on the Model K.

Thanks on that. I'm clueless, but willing to learn. I'm gonna have to get a manual somewhere and start putting her back together.I'm missing the apppropriate shaft for the transmission (clutch) and will have to frabricate a new one. Also will have to come up with the right belts.mthe man I bought her from, had a post 53 auto, but I like the crash bar , foot pad style. Also I will have to figure out how to resize my pics before I post any more. I have a 1951 Columbia 5 star bike, 58 Fiat Multipla, 60 Fiat 600, 63 vw ragtop bug 64 vwvert,67 vw bus and now a SIMPLEX.
