You need to post pictures of this bike!  It is a 1960 model sportsman. They were available in both footpeg and floorboard/crashbar models. Does yours have an internal or external kickstarter?  I think they could be had in both low rise and high rise handlebars.

Picture 1 is a 1960 high handlebar with external kickstart.
Pictures  2and 3  is 1960 low bars and internal kickstart.
Picture 4 is a 1959 rear footpeg model. According to one source, this was 1959 only, but I have one, frame # 17956, that seems to indicate a 1960.
Picture 5 is a 1958 front footpeg sportsman.  These had the standard fenders and wheels.

It's definitely a '60 model.  I posted some comments over in the introduction section also.  They made both versions towards the end (with & without crashbars).

Depending on what serial number Ricks is, your's is the 2nd newest confirmed on our registry (the other newer ones are reported from old records Bob Kerr has).

I will do my best to get you some pics i am not all that great with computers so gotta get som help with that. It has an internal starter gear, and the standard dual plug head/cylinder. As a warning though it is in as found condition. thanks for your help so far guys. this one was all black. most of the sportsmans that I see are two tone is that also rather normal?

Good question.  It seems to me, all the ones I've ever seen, were 2 tone.

I'm surprised it's got a dual plug cylinder.  I wonder if it's been changed somewhere along the line.

I just did a search, and check out what I just came up with!  All these bikes appear to have a 2 tone tank, but it looks like it might just be  a large decal!

great to know that the decal is available. Next question about how many were built? I have read several numbers from only a few to a full production run in 60. I belive that this bike is original paint although it is rough, the decal is nearly faded away. Its all black with chrome fenders and the white decal. thanks again guys Jason
