Other Things Simplex / Re: All about Simplex!
« on: May 28, 2016, 12:34:05 PM »
I was at the Home Depot when it was there. It was an old Winn Dixie grocery store that they turned in to a make shift store after Katrina to get that area up and running again. I walked around the back half of the building and could tell the concrete was very old and the loading docks as well. I always wondered if that was part of the old building. There was an old I beam in the back of the store  I recalled seeing in a picture of a Simplex catalog where the guy was assembling and wondered if I was standing in the same area. The oak trees in the front of the building are still there that's about all that remains.

Go to the Tulane University library and check out the simplex collection there. It is free and open to the public. It is from Gary Wollards collection donated to the library by his family. It has a collection of advertisements, documents and blueprints. As I was viewing the blueprints I thought to myself that Treen himself had this in his hand and gave the approval for the part to be manufactured, it was pretty cool. Lots of cool history so the next time you visit I would highly recommend you check it out.

Here is what the Simplex building looked like on North Carrolton before it became the factory.

Did this repair today it worked and it's as good as new. We should start a tech section for such repairs.

Perfect, thanks for the info that's exactly what I will do. I know Wayne probably sells the cable new but I like to keep it original as much as possible.

Anyone ever do a repair to a choke cable before? My cable was cut short by the previous owner to fit an aftermarket carb and now that I have the correct carb it is too short. The cable goes in to the shaft and it looks to be crimped in it.

I have used Caswell and I have to say it is awesome stuff. I used Redcoat and it failed probably due to the ethanol in todays fuels. I flushed out the redcoat and put the Caswell in and have had no issues with the tank since. This stuff will even fill pinholes in the tank. I know a guy that builds custom tanks and this is the only stuff he uses. Just my two cents.

It has a single wire coming out of the bottom but I don't see how it could have been wired up. I will post a pic.
