Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / Twist throttle to gs190
« on: December 25, 2022, 07:50:04 AM »
I have the gs190 mounted in my aftermarket frame. I have made it to hooking up the carb. Anyone figured out an easy way to hook up a twist throttle to this engine? Would you use the governor or go straight to carb?

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Rear stand?
« on: September 03, 2022, 07:31:21 AM »
I have the repo frame with workman wheels. The simplex kickstand is very different and will not work. Is there a rear stand that fits simplex? The kind that clips to the fender when raised.

Wheels & Tires / Worksman wheel axle
« on: June 26, 2022, 03:55:06 PM »
I need a longer axle in the front of a worksman wheel. The forks need to be wider to give room for the brake to be fastened. I beat on the axle with a dead blow hammer, but it did not budge. How does that sucker come out?

Simplexes with Non-Original Engines / What engine is best?
« on: June 26, 2022, 03:15:34 PM »
I bought an aftermarket roller at portland. I got busy and never questioned simplex hill to see what the easiest/best engine to use on it. Electric start and recoil, which engine for each?

This roller was built with the worksman wheels and briggs bolt pattern on the mount. Fiberglass fenders, tank, and seat pan. Bicycle stainless handlebars.

Off Topic / What is it? Simplex influences are many
« on: August 08, 2020, 08:51:56 AM »
Looks like a simplex from a distance. Frame looks professional. Some welding, mostly brazing on brackets, ect.
Tank, center fill, 17 inches long. Longer then any simplex tank we measured.
Frame in rear loops around instead of two tubes terminating at the wheel.
Front forks are 1/2 inch, one piece all the way thru springs, larger then two piece simplex.
Crash bars extend under bike until they meet, and smaller diameter.
Drive train goes from belt to jack shaft, to chain final drive.
The engine moves on rails by pedal to tighten belt. A one way gear holds motor/belt tight until cable to handlebar lifts gear, releasing engine to slide back and loosen drive belt.
Brakes are on outside of drum and contract using pedal on right side. They look totally inadequate.
Rear sprocket is monarch super with bracing in three places to rim.
Handlebar controls are prewar schwinn.
Fenders are prewar schwinn.
Seat leather  is simplex.
Footboards are different, bigger and wider then my other simplexes or bikes.
No serial numbers to be found.
I added the Deco-Grand engine.
Bought at portland 2020 and payed too much,,,but i liked it so I don’t care.

Edited for spelling.

Frame, Tank, Seat, Controls, Etc / Speedo whining and jumpy
« on: April 23, 2018, 12:18:42 PM »
My speedo whined very loudly on my first ride today. Bike had not been started for 12-15 years. It went up to 35 mph, then back to 10, while really the bike speed did not change. I unhooked the cable to try and let it survive while i asked questions. Is there lube needed?

Introductions / Hi from ohio
« on: April 23, 2018, 07:52:38 AM »
Hello addicts.

I did not realize i was a simplex collector until yesterday. I was messing with them 15-20 years ago, then my business got in the way and i quit.

I stopped at a yard sale yesterday, and discovered a sportsman sitting way up high on a shelf. I paid two or three times what it was worth and dragged it home. When i got there, my wife rolled her eyes at me and asked why i needed another one of those stupid things.

It is because it has an original engine on it. None of the others i took home have that. I went and counted,,,looks like i have eight now. Most are little mini bikes, bought when the 2 boys were little and rode too,,, 1 senior, 3 big bikes with “other” engines, and nowthis one. I forgot how much fun they are. I cleaned the points and carb as best i could. It runs, sort of.  I rode it a mile,,then pushed it home. Seems like carb problems. MT57 carb.

I retired last month, so hopefully will be back playing with bikes again.
