Just Wondering
« on: February 12, 2014, 02:13:46 PM »
Hi Guys,
I was just wondering how many of us live within say 250 miles of Austin Texas.
I was shocked to find Oil Lamp lives so close I can see his house ( no I really can) and then there's a guy in Austin.
There was another guy that sold one in Bryan Tx. a couple months ago.
Seems like there might be a few of us close together; just might be fun to get together and compare notes or something.
Again just wondering.
Cheers
Stafford

Hi Oil Lamp
Good to hear from you.
Haven't been doing much digging lately; the cold just kills these old bones.
Just celebrated the one year anniversary of the dig and only at the 2 meter mark.
It is such a blast though to see things that have been hidden for 100 years or more.
Got the title back on the Simplex today and ready to do a little riding.
I'll have it at the dig site on Ranger Day in beautiful down town Burton on March 8.
If you get a chance drop by and say hi.
Oh and if your seeing this twice it's because I lost the first note some how.
Cheers

I hate to be the one to tell you this , Stafford . But that's a sure sign of CRS disease , which seems to accompany the onslaught of old age .

I've been afflicted by the condition for more years than I can recall . ;)

OK I must have missed it, but what's the story on "the dig"?

Hi PD,
Your right about the CRS; just the other day I went home with my wife and the entire time I thought I was cheating on her.

Mike Sal,
On to the "Big Dig" topic and a little history.
The town of Burton was founded around the railroad and the cotton industry. The RR station was built in1870 and burned in 1898 a new RR station was built the same year. We discovered the 1870 cistern a couple years ago during the drought.
I have worked at museums and did a little archaeology work before so I volunteered to excavate it. I have a friend that is getting her PhD in archaeology at Texas A&M just down the road. She has helped and can use it as a learning tool as well.
So far we discovered the 1895 wall clock, a few coins and other objects from the fire. Great fun for old folks like me.
If it's OK I'll post a couple pics of what we have found so far.
Cheers

We could probably pass those pics off as unknown to us parts that Simplex tried but decided against . ;)

I know I would like to see them .

Sorry sent one shot two times.
First pic is a ladies wedding band, size 4 , 14 ct gold. It has the letter E on the inside.
Second pic. is a door handle and lock.
Third is a straight razor handle and buttons.
The coins and clock pics are not that good and would be hard to distinguish what they are.
Enjoy and if you ever find your self close to Burton and want to get dirty stop by.
Cheers
