Meltonian brand creme shoe polish in a jar, (not Kiwi), works great on old leather.  This brand has more dye in it.  Wear rubber gloves when applying it. Just remember that the cracks will soak in more color.  It is sometimes good to buy a lighter color than you think you need for that reason.

The roadster wreck at Pomona last year is on Google...much to their dismay.  After sending a judge to the hospital with major injuries, the car crashed into the windows of the building they were in at the Pomona Fairplex Grand National show.

Btw, putting around the Bo Huff rockabilly show in Riverside, Ca. on my '57 Simplex on Sunday created quite a stir.  I also met Lance, another great forum member who did the same thing I did - show up in a hot rod pickup with a Simplex in back.  His is very nicely restored but not started yet.

I have been in "hot rod world" for a long time and you are right, the cars must run.  But last year a gold roadster got away from the driver when it started in gear and did major damage to a judge standing nearby.

I have about 10 pics of the auction bike the auctioneer sent me, but no engine number.  I advised them that their original listing with just 2 pictures was a bit deceiving.  He has the missing flywheel but not the pinion gear and flywheel cover.  It is hard to tell if the flywheel is cracked.

Starting bid is $750.00. I was interested until I considered the shipping cost, almost 20 per cent premium and sales tax.  But it could be a good buy for a local bloke.

In the very high-end Pebble Beach millionaire concourse world, they trailer cars into the show with the tires wrapped in Saran Wrap, clean them with Q-tips and compete for "Best of Show".  Those are "number one" condition cars.  If they are driven, they immediately become a "number two" car.

A "number one" vehicle is seen as a piece of kinetic art to only be gazed at.  But "Number three" or higher vehicles are more fun, in my opinion, but there is room for everyone in the hobby I guess.

They retail for about $40/per tire plus tax and shipping...so I have about $100 in them.  To get them out of here...both tires for $65.00 plus shipping.  (I might have added Kevlar fabric inside, which I would donate). 
As you can tell, I hate flats.  Just send me a pm if interested.  I might be able to ship them with just a label on the tires.

Arcing the shoes with a file so that the shoes perfectly match the curve of the drum, (when the brakes are being applied), really helps.

BTW, the motorized bike guys are using 24" Worksman aluminum wheels with Avon motorcycle tires for about the same outside diameter and a much better quality tire.  Scott at SilverStateCycles.com sells them.
I bought expensive Maxxis Hookworm tires (26"x2.5") but now have them for sale, unused, due to the modern tread pattern that I just could not live with.  They were recommended as the strongest 26" tire out there.
