New Simplex on EBay

I thought someone put one of my bikes on EBay but it is just it's twin.
He says it's a '53 but the motor number looks to be around '56.

I'm anxious to see what it brings.

I always find it funny that someone would restore a bike and never start it?  Why?  I can't wait to take each new bike for a ride!

I always thought they were made to ride too Rick.
I keep mine in my office just because I'm out of room in my garage, and I can look at it all day but I ride it every chance I get.

Or, ... he just paid someone to do all the work on it, so he could say "I have one of these" (even though he knows nothing about motorcycles, let alone how to ride one!)

In the very high-end Pebble Beach millionaire concourse world, they trailer cars into the show with the tires wrapped in Saran Wrap, clean them with Q-tips and compete for "Best of Show".  Those are "number one" condition cars.  If they are driven, they immediately become a "number two" car.

A "number one" vehicle is seen as a piece of kinetic art to only be gazed at.  But "Number three" or higher vehicles are more fun, in my opinion, but there is room for everyone in the hobby I guess.

It seems to be located in Laurens, South Carolina.  The auctioneer has the Wico flywheel but it is missing the flywheel cover, tail light and pinion gear.

If the car never runs, how do they know it will?  To win America's Most Beautiful Roadster,  the car must run, go forward, back, turn and stop under it's own power.

IMHO, cars, trucks, bikes, ect, where made to be used, not just looked at.

Did you speak with the auction company?  If so, did you get the frame and engine numbers? 

Any guesses on how much it goes for?  I would guess around $2300.

I have been in "hot rod world" for a long time and you are right, the cars must run.  But last year a gold roadster got away from the driver when it started in gear and did major damage to a judge standing nearby.

I have about 10 pics of the auction bike the auctioneer sent me, but no engine number.  I advised them that their original listing with just 2 pictures was a bit deceiving.  He has the missing flywheel but not the pinion gear and flywheel cover.  It is hard to tell if the flywheel is cracked.

Starting bid is $750.00. I was interested until I considered the shipping cost, almost 20 per cent premium and sales tax.  But it could be a good buy for a local bloke.

I was in the Drag Racing World for many years, and it never ceased to amaze me how unsafe some people could be.   People starting manual cars in gear without pressing in the clutch;  automatic cars without a neutral safety switch?  WTF?
