I see . The stock Yamaha motors are pretty reliable , so I don't blame you for keeping it stock .
The brakes might perform a bit better if shoe pads were grooved , like :

Bill,  how is the build up going?

right now i'm stalled while i figure out a wheel/tire combo i like. i have the original 12" solid wheel that i really like the vintage look of but the yamaha zuma rear wheel is 10" with a fat low profile modern tire that has a smaller outside diameter than the 12" og tire and imo looks goofy on an antique machine. i haven't mounted the zuma drivetrain package yet so i'm looking at other donor scooter drive packages with a larger rear wheel.
