What is it? Simplex influences are many
« on: August 08, 2020, 08:51:56 AM »
Looks like a simplex from a distance. Frame looks professional. Some welding, mostly brazing on brackets, ect.
Tank, center fill, 17 inches long. Longer then any simplex tank we measured.
Frame in rear loops around instead of two tubes terminating at the wheel.
Front forks are 1/2 inch, one piece all the way thru springs, larger then two piece simplex.
Crash bars extend under bike until they meet, and smaller diameter.
Drive train goes from belt to jack shaft, to chain final drive.
The engine moves on rails by pedal to tighten belt. A one way gear holds motor/belt tight until cable to handlebar lifts gear, releasing engine to slide back and loosen drive belt.
Brakes are on outside of drum and contract using pedal on right side. They look totally inadequate.
Rear sprocket is monarch super with bracing in three places to rim.
Handlebar controls are prewar schwinn.
Fenders are prewar schwinn.
Seat leather  is simplex.
Footboards are different, bigger and wider then my other simplexes or bikes.
No serial numbers to be found.
I added the Deco-Grand engine.
Bought at portland 2020 and payed too much,,,but i liked it so I don’t care.

Edited for spelling.

Jon, did you get the motor sliders freed up?

Pete, we missed you in Portland.

Yes, sliding nicely. Made a new spring bracket to attach spring to rear of engine instead of running underneath to the front. I had to turn the front bracket upside down to mount the deco-grand engine on the sliders,  so the spring hole on the front bracket was no longer available. My way is better anyway. Very easy to replace spring now instead of fishing it under the engine while under tension.

My grease gun puts grease thru the fittings on the sliders, but I think they may be for oil? There is no ball bearing at the tip of the fittings. The grease/oil fittings are permanently brazed to the sliders.

I missed being there , Rick . :(
It was Sunday morning before I was free . I thought about driving down , but , figured most , if not all , would be gone by the time I got there .

I'd still like to read some kind of 'report' on/about that weekend .

Sorry about jacking your thread , Jon .

Awful purty cap to put on this!
I put a little continental engne on it but it was not enough hp. Looked fantastic though!
I don’t have another engine that looks good on it yet, so i mounted one of those ugly harbor frieght things on it,, 212 i Think? It goes now, but needs refinements. Too cold out there to mess with the t, but won’t be long. Summers comin.

I know this an old thread, but when I was browsing here and could not view photos, I did not realize this was probably a Safti-Cycle made in Wisconsin..Now that I am a member and can see the pics..That is sure what it appears to be..

It is not a Safti-Cycle.  This bike is now owned by a gentleman in Tennessee.  To date, no one has been able to provide any additional information on it.  It remains a mystery.

Looking at the pics again..It does have similiaritys to the Safti-Cycle..But I see the tabs at the rear of the frame for mounting the rear wheel. Mine does not have those tabs.
