New owner from Kansas
« on: May 12, 2021, 07:16:51 PM »
I just purchased a 20th anniversary automatic. I don't know anything about these bikes. I was at a swap meet an older couple brought the bike in at the very end. I thought it was pretty cool so I went into it blind. Has been in the same family from new. Runs good.
I have a lot of 2 stroke cycles nothing  this old most of the bikes I have are from the seventy's. Bob

Welcome Bob . :)

Very nice bike . Shouldn't take much to have that one on the road .
Post the frame and motor #s so it can be added to the registry .
Motor # is lower left side and frame # is under the neck support .

Pete . :)

Thanks. I will get the numbers later today. The bike runs and rides great. Could use brake linings.

You might try roughing the brake shoe lining after a good cleaning with brake cleaner .
Then , deglaze the drum surface .
That should help for a while .

I can lock my rear wheel pretty easily .

Those #s seem to place your bike as a 1954 , according to the registry .

And , I don't recall seeing downturn tail pipe pieces . Probably just one more thing I missed or forgot .

The down turned tail pieces were added by the previous owner.  I guess the manufacture date of 54  would be right for the 20th anniversary bike.

Do you know how  any documented 20th anniversary bikes exist? Are ther any known differences other than the decal?

I will be adding numbers to the registry and will include yours.    there is one on The CABE that was posted in 2018.  Still viewable.  (google search The CABE  1954 simplex)

Its numbers are very close to yours.

I deglazed the brakes and drums. I took a 3/8" ID x !/2" OD nylon pushing and split it, I snapped it on over the fixed stud on the brake actuator. That shimmed it out enough. I can not bend my right knee far enough to run the brake pedal so I ran a cable to the back and put on a hand brake works ok. Not sure I will keep the bike I wasn't really looking far one. I have at least 25 other motorcycles.

I have decided to sell the simplex. I have at least 25 other bikes and this is to nice to just have setting in the back of the shop. I have no real connection to the simplex's. The bike needs to be owned ny someone that has an appreciation for these bikes and can keep it preserved.  I listed the bike in ebay motors under motorcycle other makes.
