Carb Question

This is the carb that was on my 48 simplex. It is a Tillotston MS93E. I had a question about why this particular piece appears to be plugged and crimped? Also, what is the purpose of this piece. I've already ordered a new gasket set for it, but will be calling Wayne if I need replacement parts.

Maybe an overflow drain
The later models had / have a drain built into the case , just inside the carb mount .

Inside that tube is a torsion Spring that returns the throttle the early MS style carb worked differently than the later automatics. If the Spring isn't any good you will need to put a return Spring on it

The spring inside works great! Didn't know if I should attempt to un-crimp it and remove the plug. I just talked to Wayne today and he is sending me a MS rebuild kit. Most all of mine is there, but it's good to have just in case.
