1956 Simplex 3 wheel 1/4 ton truck for sale 1/17 known!!

READY TO SHOW OFF!!! EXTREMELY GREAT CONDITION!!!
Up for sale is a 1956 quarter ton 3-wheeled Simplex truck. VERY RARE!!! One of 17 known in existence. Under 100 built from 1949-1956. Painted and restored over 20 years ago and driven very little.
• Engine is a 125 cc, 2-cycle.
• 26 inch tires
• fully automatic clutches
• variable speed
• original rare tow bar
• Ready to drive or show
• Metal box on back has wood on bottom and also on underside of lid
• All electrical works including lights
• Original New Orleans stickers (once displayed on windshield) are still on inside of metal box for years 1957-59

Restored about 20 years ago with very little use since then.

Nice bike.  I didn't realize there were only 17 known trucks left.  I've seen photos of several at Portland & the Wollards have 2.

I wonder how accurate those #'s are?  I have read there were around 200 built and have seen 3 for sale on ebay within the last year.  I also saw several at Portland last year.  That said, they are really cool, hence the reason for my tribute build.  But that price seems pretty high.  I think Bill E. sold one of the ebay ones last year that needed a resto for around $6000.

Please share your source for the numbers you quoted. In all my research and talking to Bob L. "the Simplex Guru" I have only been able to account for the numbers referenced in my original post.  Also, please keep in mind the one I'm selling is restored.  The one sold by Bill E. on eBay last year was not restored.

Hi Jim.  Before Gary passed away, I spoke to him about the trucks.  He had written that he thought about 100 were built in his book, and only 12 were accounted for. But  that was in 1990.  Twenty years later, several more had appeared.  He reasoned that maybe more were built than he originally speculated. I read the 200 number on some website last year, but can't remember where, or who wrote it. 

BTW, did you get anywhere with the disc brake conversion?  If so, post some info please.

   I am still working on the disk brake and hope to bring it to Portland.  Hope for a big turn out of 3 wheelers this year, and I look forward to seeing your tribute bike.  Also, I have info on max speed using Comet clutch conversions on 3 wheelers  -- it's best to call me by phone for a faster report.

My tribute bike will not be completed, but I will bring it.  I have test rode it though, and it goes pretty good.  Much more pick-up than a simplex motor.
