My engine parts. Are they ok to sell?
« on: January 02, 2013, 07:02:54 PM »
Ok so I have taken photos of all the engine parts that came with my cycle. Please let me know what is garbage and what I can sell.

There are a handful of small items not in the photos.

The cylinder walls are smooth. The lines can not be felt by my fingernail. There are still hatch marks from a hone in it.

The piston is scored.

The rod looks ok.

The block has crack by the mounting bolts and one in the center by where I think the main bearing is.

The carb is shot.

The flywheel may be salvageable.

The crank has some tool marks on it. It looks like something was cut off of it.

The covers are corroded but usable.

Here is a link to the folder of all the parts.

I have seen worst parts rebuilt. From the picture it looks like you have a single spark plug jug. That is real rare, very few of those are out there. Flywheel is usable. That carb is probably a MT57, could be repaired with a new top. Us Simplex people are used to rough parts. Price the stuf and you will sell them

That motor is definetly salvagable (I couldn't tell if there's a crack down in the main chamber of the block.....that could complicate it a little).  If one of you has a buddy who's good at TIG welding, that block can be made to look good again.  However, I think it would be easier to replace the carb rather than try to save that one.  If the crankshaft journal is goofed up, our buddy Bob out in Oklahoma can probably fix it (maybe Wayne can too).

It would be a shame to set these parts on the wall just to look at.  You should sell them to one of the guys here so another Simplex may run again with Simplex power!  Then you can use the money to help out with your project.

What's really cool is that this motor is only 3 numbers newer than one owned by one of our members (aquaelvis......who's in California.....I don't think we've heard from him in a while....or does that bike now belong to kjwiley???).
