Lets see your seats... old and re-covered
« on: April 04, 2013, 02:20:45 PM »

Show us your seats. Have you re-covered one?

I want to sew up a leather cover for my seat pan. I am not sure what color I want to go with.

Bill, how much does heathers leathers charge to recover a seat? That really looks good. How long did it take to get it done?

The price on Heather's website is around $225 for a re-cover.

I have been doing enough internet research that I feel comfortable with buying a hide and sewing tools.
I have some bike seats I can do as well.

Seat #1  original seat from 1955
Seat #2 ,3  original plastic covered seat from 1957
Seat #4   Recovered seat, don't know who did it, from Gary Wollard auction.  Will be installed on my 3 wheel truck tribute this spring
Seat #5  Restored seat by Heather's Leathers.  On my 1953 Simplex Automatic
Seat #6  Original seat from my 1953 Simplex Automatic, will be installed on my 1955 rust bucket for now.

Man, I have more seats than ass!  LOL

is the logo something that was ever done at the factory or is it just something people are doing today?  can't tell if the old original seats have via the photos.  My original cover did not have it.

According to Gary Wollard, the seat logo was used up until around 1951.  I wonder if the stamping was so light, it wore away in time?

Rick is there any foam under those seats that have been recovered? Is it pretty dense? Is the whole bottom covered or is the center open?

The whole seat has foam. If you get one from Heathers leathers, he gives a choice of foam hardness. Harder foam holds the shape nicer. I highly recommend Heathers Leathers.

That seat seems to be in pretty good shape and it'll be a very good match for your 'Desert Rat' . ;)

I know by the time I buy all of the supplies I will be close to just paying for a custom cover.
There is something about just doing it myself though.  :D

The cost was $225.45 . They have diffren types of leather , if you want the logo or not , they can powder coat the seat pan, I think they have some pans too. Give them a call or check their web site first. I am verry pleased wih their work. Bill Marcum 8)
