Engine number J 6995
« on: September 16, 2013, 11:32:09 PM »
Hello Simplex enthusiast.  I found what I think is a 1940's engine.  It has the rotor and I think stator with the pully.  The numbers are J 6995.  Any help with information would be greatly appreciated, it has been hard to find.

Welcome Dtp . :)

You might check our registry . It might help pinpoint the year .

Do you have a frame for that motor ? How about a few pics ?

I looked through the registry, and did not find a J.  Looking at the other years my guess would be 48 or 49.  I do not have a frame for the engine.

I'd guess your motor was a '48 .

What are your intentions ? Are you just starting your Simplex addiction ? ;)

Model "J" was produced from September 1948 - January 1949, according to Gary Wollard's book.

I really appreciate the info.

Not sure what I want to do with it.  I restore bikes and cars and have seen a few frames for sale.  I may focus on some other projects for now.

What is a ballpark value on this?  The few I've seen on eBay were $900-$1200, does that sound right?

If it is complete and runs, I would think that is about right. If it is missing parts, such as magneto or flywheel, less.
