Well it followed me home not sure what year or anything but looking forward to working on it though it will have to sit but time to get busy, Whats the best way to figure out year and model any books on the history of these out there? Thanks

That's a great start!  Look on the side of the engine, the number will start with an "M".  Look under the steering neck, that is where the frame number is.  Let us know the numbers and we will get you a year.

Do you live near Decatur?  That is where Wayne Mahaffey is from, and he is the "Simplex Source" for parts.


The only book on Simplex is by Gary Wollard.  Look in the for sale section for info.

Welcome to the group.  My initial guess is that it's a '56 model.....phelon magneto & brake lite switch located on top of the frame rail behind the motor (at least I think I see one).

As Rick mentioned, you're located in the same state as the only source for parts for these odd ducks.  Fortunately for us Wayne is a nice guy to work with & reasonable on prices.

Yes, definitely a '56 model.  Are you sure the last digit of the motor number is an "R"?  Normal production would have been a "B".

A brother was a t work and a man came in trying to sell, They don't buy motorcycles but he made the gent a offer he accepted and he ask if I wanted it for what he paided for it. So it came home today, The previous owner said the belt broke in 68 then he parked it and it sat ... I like old iron so it worked out... Lots to do still getting my shop together looking forward to this build the little I have read has created a interest.
