I have 2 bikes, had one since around 1972 other since around 75, both have been sitting in my garage ever since, I am now at retirement age and would like to take the 2 and make one good bike, I have no idea what year either one is, one has a number on the block of 48-1225, the cylinder head has M1126, the other block only has the number 205 on it, the cylinder head also has 1126 on it, I will try to post some pictures, one bike is together, the other I have removed most of the parts and cleaned them.

Nice!  Post some more pictures so we can narrow down the year.  Take a picture of the side of the engine near the numbers.  Looks like it may be a 1948.

looks pretty identical to my '48. back when I was doing mine I was told (by Gary Wollard) that Simplex used 48 instead of the letter 'I' so as not to confuse it with the number 1. The rest of the number I believe is the sequential number of the bike. So my block has 48-190 on it. He called it an "early" 48. Don't know when an early became a later tho! Mine is a standard model and has no chrome. The little plate by the air breather is for pulling the flywheel and he also said it was unique that it was still there as I guess they would get lossed over the years.
